Cordina Positions on Parker Matters
City Administration
Municipalities typically do not function properly without a well-educated, trained staff led by a competent manager. Elected leadership interviews and selects the manager but must be careful to avoid meddling and jeopardizing staff morale. Time is important but getting the right person is of the highest importance.
Safety
Communities live and die by the enforcement of safety measures. Police staffing, in direct proportion to maintaining good order, is essential. Over-staffing leads to complacency and may affect long-term staffing goals. Finding the right balance is paramount. Volunteer Fire and EMT response timing require dedicated individuals that need recognition for their duty performance. Well maintained equipment provides assurance they can “get the job done” when called upon.
Budget
Identifying “Needs” vs. “Wants” is crucial to Parker’s success. Setting PRIORITIES is the duty of the duly elected officials. Knowing what is important vs. what is “nice to have” is not well achieved by “on the job training.” Listening to the voters is paramount, and EXPERIENCE plays a vital role. As more homes come “on-line” more revenue will follow but this does not mean we can be careless. A solid foundation of mature skills are essential to manage debt considerations.
Infrastructure
Safe roads, a clean, plentiful water supply & government equipment & property maintenance must receive the proper PRIORITY which are fundamental to resident safety and constituent property value enhancement. Elected officials are tasked to make certain these goals are achieved. There is no excuse for failure in these areas. A publicized plan for road rehabilitation MUST BE DONE IMMEDIATELY!
Community Relationships
Knowing WHO our employees and elected officials are – not just by name but by sight – is vital. Jobs get done right, with great pride, when respect is shown to those tasked with the assignments. It all starts with the city Council members. With the right disposition, and value proposition everyone benefits and Parker can once again become the BEST DALLAS AREA SUBURB for the third time!
Communication Avenues
Ask yourself this: Do you know your neighbors by name? If there was a suspicious happening on their property can you reach them? For more than a dozen consecutive years a Parker Directory was published. It was a monumental task that was championed by the Parker Women’s Club. Do you see the VALUE it can bring to our COMMUNITY? Don’t you think it is about time for Parker to rekindle this lost tradition?
Annexation
Our city has never been over-anxious to get “built-out.” In the most recent 150 days some 18 properties were either sold or listed for sale. The value of these approached $25 million, with an average of $1.38 million per home. Fact: The higher the home value, the more taxes are collected. It is time we take a professional look at revenue anticipations and adjust our tax rate to be reflective of our “true needs.” This includes potential annexations. This also may very well mean YOU will pay less Parker property tax in the years to come than you will in 2025.
Water
Water storage is critical to every municipality. Managing water use is vital since our large estate sized lots require a substantial supply to preserve our luscious landscapes. It is time for our Council to step up and coordinate our needs through the means of political action. This is not a matter for amateur negotiators. Mature, skilled talents will be needed if we are to achive a solution satisfactory for the ” north-Texas oasis” – Parker!
